So here we are, it’s not even a week into 2020 and, according to the more hysterical sections of the legacy media, we face World War Three.
This follows the Trump-authorised killing of Iranian Terrorist-in-Chief General Qassem Soleimani by a well targeted drone strike on Baghdad Airport a few day ago. Not much was left of the good General but at least his few remains enjoyed a good funeral and gave the regime the scope for much needed street theatre.
Let’s get a few things straight about Soleimani. He richly deserved being shredded by the missile. In a way it was quite poetic given that he himself had devoted his life to organising the killing other people. Furthermore, he did actually seek death by “martyrdom” so he got what he wanted, in spades. As did several of his senior aides.
Naturally, the Iranian regime immediately took a break from oppressing and killing its own people (1500 or so in the past short while) and started bleating about how “this meant war”. Trump has made it clear that should Iran attack US assets, the US has identified 52 sites in Iran that will be obliterated in response.
Let’s see what happens but I fully support the angle Trump is pursuing. He doesn’t want a land war, he doesn’t want to invade, but neither will he accept the US being bullied by the mad Mullahs in Tehran. He will not allow terrorism being fanned by Islamist fanatics. Obama is no longer in the White House.
Saudi Arabia should take note.
Now, like many others of Trump supporters, I do recognise that the US shouldn’t really be IN the Middle East. Little good comes of it. However if the US were not present at least in some way, it is certain that nations like Iran would move to obliterate Israel.
So it is a least-worst option to have some presence there, albeit at a minimal level.
The world is a better place without Soleimani. Few sane people will doubt that. Same logic applies to other terrorist leaders, their presence on this Planet does not enhance it. So this IS a dangerous moment in time but I believe that like all bullies, Iran talks a good game but cannot deliver on it.
It’s crucial that we also differentiate between the Iranian people, many of whom desperately seek freedom from the horrendous captivity in which they are placed, and the vile tyrants who plague their lives. Soleimani was one of them. Now he is gone. Celebrate – it’s the end of war on the world.
On a footnote, it was nice to see this lion of the Iranian regime on his final journey on an American vehicle. God bless America.
