NEW ZEALAND MOSQUES AND NIGERIAN VILLAGES

49 people were killed and a further 48 injured as a terrorist opened fire inside the Al Noor mosque in central Christchurch, New Zealand, as worshippers gathered to pray.

The gunman is then said to have driven to another mosque in the suburb of Linwood where the second shooting occurred.

The carnage is unimaginable and the condemnation has been universal.

The visiting Bangladesh national cricket team had a narrow escape: they were on their way to pray at the Al Noor mosque.

AltNewsMedia also expresses sympathy to the next of kin of those cruelly murdered and hopes they find consolation and peace in the time ahead.

Muslims living in the west must have the right to pray and pursue their faith without threat of violence. There can be no equivocation on this simple point. We pride ourselves on being civilised and we demonstrate it by tolerance of all faiths.

Predictably there has been also instant politicising of this tragedy from the legacy media. There has been much talk of “right-wing terrorism” (the alleged suspect admires Communist China and calls himself an “eco-fascist”) and of course “Islamophobia”. The alleged killer calls himself a “white supremacist” yet disingenuously claims that black American conservative Candace Owens is a major influence on him. Evidently a very disturbed mind.

However, just a few days ago, 100 people were killed in a part of Nigeria by Muslim terrorists.

This slaughter took place in the Kaduna area. This has made zero international headlines despite the scale of the killings. The wife of a Christian pastor was reported to be amongst the dead.

Are some victims more deserving of media attention than others?

Terrorism is always to be condemned and those who carry it out show a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of human life.

It is my view that terrorists convicted under due process should be executed.

That way, we send the message that if you set out to take life, you will forfeit your life.

But there is a double standard in play here and it has to be clearly spelt out.

It is wrong when Muslims murder and it is wrong when Muslims are murdered. The legacy media are very quick to seek to distance the actions of Muslim terrorists from their faith. When Muslims kill Christians, Jews and others, the media universally revert to the “nothing to do with Islam” and “mental illness” line and we are warned to look out for Islamophobia.

Perversely, when as in the New Zealand case, Muslims are the innocent victims, the culprit is immediately linked to a specific ideology and we are warned to look out for Islamophobia.

Weaponising murder is reprehensible from all sides. We MUST condemn terrorism from wherever it comes from. We MUST not seek to obfuscate in one case but not another lest of offend. Above all, we MUST recognise that every human life is equal and the loss of any life is to be mourned.

“Are some victims more deserving of media attention than others?”

A valid question, the answer of course should be no but unfortunately for the MSM the answer seems to be yes, especially when the victims are Muslims and the attacker is a non-Muslim. When Muslims kill Muslims or when Muslims kill non-Muslims the MSM likes to ignore it, if it is reported it might get a small paragraph or two buried somewhere behind the front page. But if a non-Muslim kills a Muslim then it’s BREAKING NEWS and front page news every day for a week, the story is literally flogged to death.

Can I take this opportunity to offer my condolences to the family members of the victims of the Christchurch attack whose lives were cruelly taken away by an obviously deranged person who needs to and probably will spend the rest of his life in jail.

It must receive the same amount of attention. There are almost no foreign journalists in Nigeria. It doesn’t matter who carries out an attack, whether it is a country that is bombed or individuals, injustice is injustice. And it should not be worse than terror knows no religion. Calling someone a Christian terrorist makes them targets where they live as minorities, just like Western Muslims.
