As the Brexit process approaches one minute to midnight, our enemies in Brussels have met and discussed what lies in store. AltNewsMedia has exclusively obtained the minutes of the EU Conference of Committee Chairs meeting with Michel Barnier held on the 10th January to discuss Brexit. In the spirit of openness it’s worth taking a glimpse into the understandings of Barnier and his associates.
To start with, and most significantly Barnier indicates in his opening remarks at the meeting that he does NOT want to “hear talk of a No Deal” Why? Because a so-called a “No Deal” or more accurately a WTO tariff orderly Brexit, denies Barnier and his playmates the £39bn needed to keep the EU financial show on the road. It’s also clear from the minutes of the meeting that the EU dreads a “No Deal” and will be inclined to agree to a FTA if the only other alternative is a “no Deal”. This negotiation weakness on the part of the EU robber barons also highlights the supine weakness of the Theresa May led negotiations. All she had to do from June 23rd 2016 was to say that we WILL walk away without any Deal and she would have been gifted one. But May is a Remainer at heart so she simply cannot countenance the suggestion that we should just leave and then seek “a deal’.
Barnier makes it clear in the meeting that the EU is determined to control the UK’s Defence policy along with meddling in our foreign policy and indeed sanctions on third countries (read Russia) In the light of this it makes the stern warnings of the former head of MI6 Sir Richard Dearlove and former Chief of the Defence Staff Lord Guthrie yesterday all the more relevant…
“The Withdrawal Agreement…would place control of aspects of our national security in foreign hands”
Yes and THAT is exactly the aim of the EU negotiators.
It is also perfectly clear from the minutes of the meeting concerning the Protocol on Gibraltar that the EU believes Spain will be afforded a VETO over Gibraltar. It is stated during the meeting that…
“….the Spanish government needs to give its approval for anything that happens in Gibraltar”
So the Rock will be sold out if the Withdrawal Agreement is accepted. One wonders why the Socialist Labour Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo is such an ardent supporter of the Withdrawal Agreement that provides Spain with this veto?
The British Fishing Industry is set for sacrifice with Barnier carefully explaining that…
“We and UK guarantee the access to our fishers to British waters”
If we are guaranteeing that the EU can have access to our waters, and there is no qualification of this extent of this access, then there is no advantage to be gained for our beleaguered Fishing Industry. Yet the Prime Minister insists this is a great deal for them!
On the vexed issue of the Irish border, Barnier is relatively mute. He does spell out however that….
“….Backstop is not yet to be used, this is an insurance policy in order to guarantee, there would never be a hard border, in case of backstop, a joint review mechanism exist to conclude if it is no longer necessary”
Given the treaty status of the Backstop provision in the Withdrawal Agreement, Barnier has all he needs to keep the UK locked in but note that the“joint review mechanism” exists to conclude IF, not WHEN, the Backstop is no longer necessary!
Barnier makes it clear that the UK shall be subject to EU law until the end of the transition period and that transition period can be extended until 2022. The idea that the UK Prime Minister is delivering on the Brexit requirement to take back control of our laws is entirely at odds with what has been agreed with Barnier.
In summary, the EU is determined to get its’ sweaty hands on our £38bn, our Defency policy, Gibraltar, UK Fishing and Northern Ireland whilst making us subject to EU law. The Withdrawal Agreement delivers all of this. The one thing that the EU fears is a “No Deal” and yet that is precisely the one thing that House of Commons seems determined to rule out!
