You might have thought that the news of a UK journalist winning the international Free Press Society’s 2019 Sappho award and being presented it in the Danish Parliament in Copenhagen, Denmark, would generate great excitement and extensive coverage in the UK media. But NOT when that journalist is called Tommy Robinson. Instead, it has gone unreported and the media don’t seem remotely interested.
Previous esteemed winners of the Sappho award include Ezra Levant, Mark Steyn and the late Sir Roger Scruton.
The organisers of the Award spell out the basis on which the award is considered. The Free Press Society’s freedom of expression award, the Sappho Award, is awarded to a person who has shown uncompromising courage in the struggle for the free word.
Regardless of how one views some of Tommy Robinson’s actions, it’s hard to think of anyone who has shown greater courage over the past few years in his pursuit of justice for the many victims of the UK grooming gangs. His treatment at the hands of the UK legacy media has been abominable.
Here is Tommy’s acceptance speech.
