Let’s make it abundantly clear from the start – ALL kinds of racism is wrong. It was Martin Luther King, speaking in 1963, who uttered those immortal words;
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
And it is surely a dream we all still share. Yes, progress has been made, yes, more progress needs to happen. But something else is happening – a new racism virus has arisen and, incredibly, it is deemed ok.
Let me provide a few exhibits. Meet Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.
Yasmin, an immigrant into the UK from Uganda, has form on this. In a newspaper article in 2009, she has also the words “stupid”, “vicious” and “scum” to describe white working-class people. Yasmin continues to commentate on British legacy media and is much loved by the media.
Now meet a younger example. His name is Nish Kumar and is, allegedly, a comedian.
This was part of his “comedy” act. I suggest that were I to say the same thing but swap the skin colour from white to black, I would be instantly banned and made into a non-person. Instead, Nish is much loved by the BBC and in fact on Brexit Night, they chose him to present this programme.
Nish has a pal called Romesh, Another “comedian”
Again, substitute “black” for white and that would mean mean an instant Twitter ban. Romesh has no problems with saying such.
And if we search a little more widely we find these kind of headlines.
The question is this; Why is it OK to be racist against WHITE people?
If you believe in what Martin Luther King argued for, we should all be judged by the content of our characters. But these people, all of BAME origin, get to as racist as possible and worse, they are lauded and get away with it. And they get away with it because if we dare call THEM out for the racism they so clearly display, we will be accused of being race-haters. That’s how the game now works.
I find ALL racism repulsive but the meaning of the word is being twisted out of all recognisable shape. Social media is replete with little left wing feral trolls screaming “Racist” at you if you say you love your Country. In doing so they devalue the original power of the word but give it a new meaning.
It means closing down all debate.When you are accused of “racism” you must shut up and go away.
So when I raise these points concerning Alibai-Brown, Kumar and Ranganathan, It is I who will be accused of racism. My crime? To highlight egregious instances of racism.
Welcome to 2020. Orwell never knew the half of it.
